hello,

I’m Louise.

I am a mother of one and was amazed how little I knew at the beginning of my journey. Coming home from hospital, the first few weeks were a blur, but pretty soon I wanted to get some sort of sense and order back in my life. The problem was I didn’t have a clue how to start. I tried asking friends, but found their memories were pretty hazy, and I tried following an app which confused me completely. Eventually I talked to a maternity nurse who told me about awake windows and tired cues……….what an aha moment that was.

From there my fascination with sleep started. How could some simple bits of knowledge be such a game changer? Why aren’t we all taught these basics when we are pregnant or leaving the hospital? We take the Lamaze classes, infant first aid courses and speak with a lactation specialist in hospital, why does no one teach us about babies sleep?

Another thing no one told me is that babies don’t know how to go to sleep on their own, and this is a learned behaviour. Frantically rocking and jiggling my little girl to sleep for every nap and bedtime was becoming exhausting and something I started to dread. When the time was right, I decided to teach her the skill of independent sleep and it totally changed our day. Being able to put her in her cot, give her a kiss and leave the room was the ultimate liberation and we never looked back. Learning to go to sleep independently is a truly invaluable life skill and a journey I love helping parents through.

My big passion is to try and give as many people as possible key information about babies sleep needs before they find themselves in a sleep deprived crisis. Prevention is always better than a cure in my mind. If, however, you have found yourself needing some help further down the line, then with a bit of work and consistency, we can turn things around fairly quickly.  It is never too late to ask for help!
